Millions of European settlers pushed the American frontier further and further west, between the 17th and the 19th century. Why did the pioneers go on such a dangerous journey? How did they live their lives? And what did this mass migration mean for the Native Americans, who had been living in the Americas since long before the arrival of Europeans?

This presentation illustrates why the frontier experience still plays such an important role in U.S. national identity.
